TYPES OF POLISHED CONCRETE
GCP offers two types of polished concrete flooring solutions:
A premium mechanically polished floor is also referred to as a Hiperfloor Solutions, for high end commercial and residential use indoors only.
The floor is generally ground three times to show the aggregate or stone and this can be done lightly for minimal exposure (salt and pepper look) or more for full exposure.
We then perform a grouting process to fill in pin holes and any small cracks. We then put a densifier down to harden the floors surface by up to 10 times and then polish the floor up to 7 times with resin pads to get the desired shine or gloss level required, the floor then receives a penetrating sealer which soaks into the floor to prevent any staining from occurring which leaves the floor looking immaculate and shiny that creates an everlasting impression.
GRIND AND SEAL
A Grind & Seal option is for the more cost effective option for indoor and outdoor use on driveways, garages and paths etc.
In this process the floor is ground twice to show the aggregate or stone and this can be done lightly for minimal exposure (salt and pepper look) or more for full exposure.
Then two coats of sealer or urethane are applied which sits ontop of the surface, giving the concrete a shiny glossy appearance. This is generally a four step process and available for indoor and outdoor concrete. For outdoor use we can add an antislip agent which is like a grit or sand which can be altered to your desire depending on how non-slip you want the surface to be.
It is much easier to tell the difference between the types of polished concrete with the naked eye but photos can only give you an indication. Keep in mind that with all topical sealers they will wear over time and may need to be re-coated depending on how much traffic and weather they receive etc.
However the mechanical polishing process has no topical sealer to wear away only a penetrating sealer so it will withstand the test of time.
